BRIAN INGRAM STUDIO LIGHTING WORKSHOP 2018
CHANGES EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 9, 2018:
**DUE TO DEMAND, the price for ALL Workshop participants is $315 (the former "Early Bird" price).
**Only the deposit is due when registering. The remaining amount is not due until the date of your workshop.
**Also, due to demand, I am offering 2-day, one-on-one workshops, for the SAME price ($315) until January 1, 2019. If interested, please send me an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org with dates that you would like to do a private workshop. Private workshops will be less structured, in the sense that I'm willing to adapt as we go and teach you whatever you want in the studio.
For this workshop, we'll spend almost two (2) days learning concepts such as:
(1) studio gear basics;
(2) the minimum gear setup/recommendations for successful studio lighting;
(3) how to best "dial in" your gear;
(4) what a light meter is, when it is and isn't important, and how to use one;
(5) composition in a studio setting using a backdrop; how the camera and strobes (a.k.a. monolights) work together to control the ambient and artificial light in a studio setting;
(6) what the "inverse square law" and how it applies;
(7) fill light versus key light and and explanation of the uses of each;
(8) the basics of light control using flags or scrims and how they can add drama to a portrait;
(9) the subtle art of bringing out genuine emotion and feel from a subject using personal tips and tools that I've learned and discovered in my own work;
(10) how to develop your own style.
***This schedule is subject to change.
9:00 to 12:00: Introduction to studio lighting, the ins and outs of studio gear and how to use these tools, basic lighting principles, composition, fill versus key light, tips and tools to help bring out genuine emotion in your subject, "inverse square law" explained and demonstrated with studio lighting, basics of using flag/scrims to control light and add drama, composition, the use of negative space and negative fill, etc.
12:00 to 1:00: Lunch (everyone on their own to grab lunch wherever they wish).
1:00 to 4:00: Participation by everyone - using studio gear and customized backdrops - to practice everything discussed earlier in the morning. (SOFT LIGHTING SETUP AS IS MORE COMMON IN FASHION SHOOTS)
9:00 to 11:00: Continue shooting with participation by everyone - using studio gear and customized backdrops, practicing/applying all that was discussed yesterday. (HARD LIGHTING SETUP WITH AND WITHOUT THE USE OF FLAGS/SCRIMS)
11:00 to 12:00: Continue shooting with participation by everyone - using studio gear and customized backdrops, practicing/applying all that was discussed yesterday. (LIGHTING SWITCH-UP TO SOFT LIGHTING SETUP AS IS MORE COMMON IN FASHION SHOOTS)
12:00 to 12:30: Shorter break (everyone on their own to do what they want or need to do).
12:30 to 2:00: Questions/Answer Session with occasional demonstration by myself of my approach and my own technique when making portraits.
A solid working knowledge of the camera and lenses that you bring, particularly how to set your aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. No lighting experience is required or necessary.
Studio is located in Monroe, Georgia. Exact location and directions will be e-mailed to you upon completion of registration.
DSLR camera with at least one (1) lens (nothing larger than an 85mm focal length.....50mm lenses are most ideal and 35mm lenses are great also). It's very important that your camera have a working "hot shoe" in order to utilize a radio trigger for the strobe lighting. Also, please don't forget to bring memory cards - and any extra batteries and a battery charger that you may have.
Being that these will be my first three workshops ever, I have priced low so that hopefully they will be affordable to most people who want to attend. Pricing will most likely increase after these first three (3) workshops for 2018 are finished.
***Please note that this scheduling page does not allow different payment amounts ("Early Bird" vs. Regular Price). Therefore, you will see the Regular amount of $415.00 only. However, the deposit is the same for regular and "early bird" pricing. Moreover, whether you go with the "early bird" or normal pricing, Brian will know, on his end, the specific remaining amount due (based on what date you signed up) on the 1st day of your workshop. So, please do not worry that you will owe the regular amount if you signed up by the "Early Bird" date. You will not.
